Republican lawmakers are pushing to establish a \u201cWomen\u2019s Bill of Rights\u201d to enshrine into law protections for biological females.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bill defines sex as a person\u2019s biological sex at birth. Under the legislation, \u201cwoman\u201d and \u201cgirl\u201d refer to human females, and the terms \u2018\u2018man\u2019\u2019 and \u2018\u2018boy\u2019\u2019 refer to human males.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Acknowledging biological differences between the sexes is important for \u201cprotecting sex-segregated activities and organizations,\u201d according to a\u00a0press release\u00a0issued by Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), who unveiled the bill outside the Capitol Hill on May 19. The bill also affirms the importance of using \u201cmother\u201d and \u201cfather\u201d in the written law to \u201cprotect families and bolster parents,\u201d it added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c[T]here are important reasons to distinguish between the sexes with respect to athletes, prisons, domestic violence shelters, restrooms, and other areas, particularly where biology, safety, and privacy are implicated,\u201d states the bill, a copy of which was shared with The Epoch Times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

A companion version of the bill has been introduced in the Senate by Sens. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), and Ted Cruz (R-Texas).<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe world is total upside down when I have to introduce legislation signifying a woman versus a man,\u201d said Lesko at the Thursday press conference.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOur colleagues on the left are trying to erase women,\u201d she said. \u201cWhether it\u2019s taking the word \u2018mother\u2019 out of written law or allowing biological men in women\u2019s domestic violence shelters, the Democrats are erasing women and the spaces that are uniquely ours.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Five other lawmakers co-leading the bill also spoke at the press conference.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-Tenn.) said she is leading the effort to clarify biological\u00a0gender\u00a0distinctions \u201cat a time when our future generations of female leaders need it the most.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s disheartening and infuriating to see some of our nation\u2019s leaders reject the unique biological characteristics that make a woman,\u201d she told The Epoch Times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the press conference, Harshbarger described being a woman to mean \u201cthe incredible honor of being a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a female business owner, and now a congresswoman.\u201d Defining what a woman is, she said, is \u201cnot that hard.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a pharmacist, allow me to define a woman for you,\u201d she said at the press conference. \u201cFemales are the sex that has the capacity to bear children or produce eggs. In simple terms, that means a human capable of giving birth to another human.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re still confused, follow the science. Women have two X chromosomes, are born with a uterus and ovaries, and they have a menstrual or ovarian cycle, which means they can give birth,\u201d she added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Mary Millier (R-Ill.) said she is supporting the bill on behalf of her five daughters, who, she noted, are \u201call women.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis common-sense document will help codify our common understanding and the reality we all know of the words \u2018female,\u2019 \u2018woman,\u2019 and \u2018sex\u2019, and I am proud to support it,\u201d she told The Epoch Times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) invoked the example of Hans Christian Andersen\u2019s folktale \u201cThe Emperor\u2019s New Clothes,\u201d where everyone became \u201cfools\u201d watching their emperor walk naked on the streets \u2014 \u201duntil a young boy spoke up and asked the obvious question: \u2018Why does the emperor not have any clothes on?\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like we are living in that story today,\u201d she said. \u201cSomeone needs to speak up and state the obvious, and wake everyone up.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Debates about fairness have come into focus since Lia Thomas, a University of Pennsylvania transgender athlete on the men\u2019s swimming program as recent as 2019, broke three women\u2019s records in freestyle swimming last December.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aimee Arrambide, executive director of the pro-abortion group Avow Texas, testified to a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday that she believes men can become pregnant and have abortions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the largest group of conservative lawmakers in Washington, cited the testimony as one example of what he saw as the left\u2019s attempt to deny people\u2019s biological differences.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBut denying reality is difficult and Americans are hard to fool,\u201d he said at the press conference, noting that a bill by his colleague Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) to disqualify transgender students from competing in women\u2019s sports has received 183 signatures from House Republicans, 35 votes shy of the 218 needed to force a vote on the House floor.<\/strong><\/p>\n
