JERUSALEM: An official Palestinian report claiming that a key Jewish holy site — Jerusalem’s Western Wall — has no religious significance to Jews evoked an angry response from Israelis Wednesday, threatening to further inflame tensions over the disputed city.

The Palestinian Authority will not return to peace talks with Israel unless there is a freeze on settlement building that includes East Jerusalem, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday.

The prime minister has previously said any settlement moratorium will not apply to areas around East Jerusalem that Israel captured during a 1967 war and the Palestinians want as the capital of a future state.
JERUSALEM — Israel has ended its unofficial building freeze in east Jerusalem, giving the green light for hundreds of new homes in Jewish neighborhoods of the traditionally Arab sector of the city – and dealing another potential blow to U.S.-led efforts to salvage peace negotiations.
The Palestinian flag was hoisted at the side of the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem on Wednesday for a photograph of Benjamin Netanyahu and President Mahmoud Abbas. This was customary in former prime minister Ehud Olmert’s days, but many of those in the prime minister’s bureau who were preparing for the meeting had objected to raising the Palestinian flag. After much deliberation, it was finally decided to follow the previous government’s precedent.
The Palestinian Authority on Sunday again reiterated to its own people in Arabic that the ultimate goal in regards to Jerusalem is to wrest control of the entire city from Israel. And once again, the international media ignored the nefarious agenda that the Palestinians themselves admit they have.
