Bethlehem – Ma’an – Arab states are demanding that the United States clarify the purpose of a planned return trip by US President George W. Bush to Israel in May to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of Israel, an Emirati newspaper reported on Sunday.
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
—Genesis 12:3
â€Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.â€
—Ezekiel 11:17
The Arab League and a number of Arab governments want the American government to explain the nature of the trip, as May will also mark the 60th anniversary of what Palestinians call the Nakba, the Catastophe of the violent expulsion of Palestinians from 1948 Palestine.
The UAE-based Al-Khalij newspaper said that Arab states have communicated their disappointment to the Americans over the divisive plan.
A senior American official told reporters on Saturday that Bush may return to the region more than once in 2008.
Bush is currently visiting Persian Gulf states as a part of a week-long tour of the Middle East. Earlier this week he visited Jerusalem, and the West Bank cities of Ramallah and Bethlehem.
