Rhonda Hester just lost her job and instead of pulling out her hair, she put it to use.
“I really love my hair, I really can’t imagine cutting it, but I really need money to take care of my daughter right now, so I’ll give up my hair,” Hester told “Good Morning America.”
Hester is turning to TheHairTrader.com and hoping her 20-inch locks will bring in at least $1,000.

Jacalyn Elsie, who manages the Web site, said she hears some heartbreaking tales from her clients.
“We’ve received moms, just an overwhelming amount of moms, posting their hair for sale saying ‘I want some extra money for my family. Times have been tough.’”
So tough that the Internet site is now receiving a staggering 1,000 inquiries every day. The number of women who want to sell their hair has doubled in three months.
“We’ve been experiencing a tremendous growth,” Elsie said.
According to Elsie, one client was able to make more than $2,500 for her hair.
“They will contact the seller and say ‘I’m looking for 20 inches and this is what I need — I need the hair cut gathered in a pony tail,’” she said.
The hair often goes toward creating fashionable long hair extensions.
“People are paying top dollar for top quality,” Elsie said.
Women can also legally sell their eggs and receive more than for more than $2,500.
On college campuses there has been a 70 percent increase in applications to become sperm donors.
“It takes them only about 15 minutes and they can generate $14,000 a year,” Dr. Cappy Miles Rothman, founder of Cryobank, said. But it’s no easy feat.
Tough Application Process for Sperm Donors
“It’s really somebody who has to be dedicated, has to be very healthy, free of genetic diseases,” Rothman said. “We have an awful lot of information on the donor. He is screened for genetic diseases, sexually transmitted diseases and also he is required to be here once or twice a week to provide samples. So it’s a dedication. It’s not just a frivolous position.
“Not only are they paid for it but they are doing a good humanitarian thing,” Rothman said.
Though thousands of men apply, only 9 percent of applicants are accepted as donors.
According to Rothman, the ideal man is six feet tall, has blond or brown hair, blue or green eyes, medium complexion, medium build, is in college or is a college graduate and has dimples.
“It’s an easy way to generate more income, but nobody comes in who looks like he’s homeless or needs money to eat,” Rothman said. “I have never yet seen anybody return the money or not accept the money.”

I’m wondering what folks who regularly read/comment on ITD think of Miss California a.k.a. Miss Prejean’s situation?
(Ernest?) While I applaud her taking a stand and stating her beliefs, I also do not think she should have been made a poster child for those who believe in Christian marriage.
Just hoping some of you will offer your input.

Re selling one’s eggs or sperms, people have to be careful not to think of this like donating blood. There will be a child as a result of the donation.
What kind of life will this child have? Do we know if legal steps are being taken to assure that those involved in human trafficking cannot start their own “puppy mills”?
Becca,
And, about Miss California, personally, I think she was brave to speak how she truly felt, & she was polite to say she didn’t mean any offense to anyone.
I think she was set up, gays probably got wind of the fact that she was christian & they intended to bring her down. I think the air time she is getting is good, it will give more of her peers the courage to not to have to be so P.C.

Miss California and every other contestant should be able to speak their mind without retribution. However, the WAY she answered was what distracted me—same choice and opposite choice? I think her answer was given in a manner beneath the stage of competition she had achieved. Her mostly nude photo’s that have hit the Internet will do nothing to support her claim of living a Christian lifestyle. I believe she is motivated by fame and money not personal values.

(dannyboy) Are you kidding? Miss California is about the last person needed to represent Christians! Satan is laughing it up right now. Here she is standing in an immodest dress, performing in a materialistic contest, and having the audacity to claim that she has any knowledge about sexual properness? Of course I agree with her making a “stand” (term used lightly) against gay marriage, but she is promoting heterosexual perversion as she parades around in a bikini! In the end, it is ALL a twisted and shallow version of what Christ expects from his children. Also, how can she now claim that she has been “set up” by the gay community when they find topless pictures of her that she admits to have taken! This world is so upside down that the Christians don’t even know the difference between purity and perversion anymore. And please don’t respond to my post as being “judgemental.” The truth hurts and if we don’t start judging ourselves with the truth of the Bible, how can we expect to make any impact in the lost world around us? Yes, pray for Miss California and pray for all the millions of people who are deceived into thinking she represents Christ following believers.

Even though this story concerns selling body parts for money, some comments have been made concerning Miss California and her surgically enhanced ‘body parts’. I am grieved over the number of professing Christians who hold this woman up as some sort of poster girl for Christianity. She is in dire need of prayer!
She says we have a ‘choice’ [huh?!?], she speaks her opinion concerning homosexual marriage, yet does NOT back it with God’s word. She flaunts her surgically enhanced body across the stage on national television for all to see, stirring up lust in the hearts of men [and lesbians] everywhere, and this is the mark of a Godly, Christian woman? She lied about previous naked photos as well. Where has the discernment gone? This woman has brought shame and reproach, as well as ridicule, upon the name of Christ by claiming to be Christian, yet, dressing like a prostitute. Even the pagan world can see the wrong in this, and have labeled this woman as a hypocrite.
Miss California needs prayer, she needs salvation. May God use this shameful mess she has brought on herself to truly save her…not just a verbal confession on her part, but an inward change that manifests itself outwardly through His power by His Spirit.

Poor sniveling Miss California, her hypocrisy is showing publicly. She is anti gay marriage because of her Christian beliefs. She blames satan for her getting that particular question in the soft porn beauty contest she gladly strutted her stuff for. As I said above, every contestant has an opinion and should be able to voice it truthfully if asked. However if Satan is behind all this “free speech” why did she fail to blame him for altering her God given body by accepting free implants? Where were her Christian “values” when she flaunted most of her bodily surface for a cheap girlie rag? Was that just too hard a satanic conquest for her to be victorious? Me thinks she uses her value system when it puts her name, face, or body parts on the evening news. She is an embarrassment to the teachings she claims to embrace.

Circumspectful & lyn: Thanks so much for your posts. I have been so saddened by how many believers suddenly feel the need to “stand up” for Miss California as if she is a persecuted Christian. As Circumspectful so carefully pointed out, “she is promoting heterosexual perversion as she parades around in a bikini! In the end, it is ALL a twisted and shallow version of what Christ expects from his children.”
Let’s pray for this young lady’s salvation!

Boy, I can really feel the love of G-D flowing here.
Personally, I can say that I understand G-D’s Word a lot better now than I did when I was in my 20′s. I’m grateful that I have known people who believe in edification, & that my walk with the Lord was never disheartened.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
