A spiritual twist has been added to the cocktail of exercises known as yoga.
Two Valley women have been teaching Christian yoga for years now and will be holding an upcoming event to introduce it further to the public.
The concept for Christianity-centered yoga has sprung up across the country, but Elena Porter pioneered it in Arizona in 2002. She had been a yoga instructor for years and realized that her experience could be better.
“I found yoga to be very peaceful,” Porter said. “But I did not find it to be very spiritual.”
So one day, she decided to try something different and focus her thoughts on a specific Biblical verse before she began her exercises for the day. It was that idea that would plant the seeds for the growth of Christian yoga at her church and around the Valley.
“I felt like I had an incredible spiritual experience,” Porter said. “So I was encouraged by a friend to pursue teaching Christian yoga.”
She said she went to her pastor at Mountain Park Community Church, 2408 E Pecos Road, with the intention of talking to him about possibly starting a class for the public.
“I don’t know what compelled me to do it, but afterwards I was freaking out thinking, ‘I’m about to teach this class,’” Porter said. “Never in my mind did I think it would catch on.”
Porter said that they see about 150 people each week for classes but she expects that figure to grow once six new classes and four new teachers, including Brooke Boon, who started Holy Yoga, are added to the MPCC ministry.
Boon, an Ahwatukee Foothills resident, started an international ministry and, more than two years later, has seen 113 new people become certified as teachers in Holy Yoga.
“It’s still very much yoga and anyone that practices will still get a real yoga experience,” Boon said. “The difference is that Holy Yoga is based on the word of God. It’s about looking at his word in an applicable way.”
Boon said that it is another, peaceful way to have a worship experience and get exercise.
“In a physical sense, there is a vibration and frequency our bodies operate on,” Boon said. “Our energy through Holy Yoga elevates the frequency for a full-blown experience.”

I’m sure that there are those out there, that are really “out there” that will view this as harmless, after all it’s “christian”.

While I have no idea if Bob and Jean Anderson are Christians, they know more about stretching than anyone else out there.
This is a book I recommended to my patients for many years!
People who used it properly benefited greatly and to my knowledge the was no accidental awaking of the kundalini, or serpent energy.
Also many Yoga poses also awaken or stimulate the sex drive, and these poses are used as part of tantric yoga training. Do you really want your teenage daughter experiencing this?

“to focus ones thoughts on a specific Biblical verse’ is very much in line with contemplative “spirituality” be forewarned.
We are to meditate on G_D and the Word of G_D, but not to use a verse as a mantra!

A rose by any other name…
According to a Hindu Yogi, there is no such thing as Christian yoga and that all yoga has it’s roots in Hinduism.

There is no such thing as Christian Yoga!
It is eastern religion. Baby Christians might not be able to tell the differnce between exercise and idol worship. It is best to avoid it altogether, rather than get hooked into idolatry.
The problem with big denominations today is that they deny Christ, and in the process accept demons in His place. This is a classic example!

The Eastern Religious Occult practice of Yoga is not the channel to Biblical Christianity. It’s the channel for contacting familiar spirits.. Emptying your mind and body in the Yoga way is an invitation to the influence of demonic spirits. It doesn’t matter what kind of mantras you use. The practice of Yoga is being used today to deceive masses of people who will be under strong delusion at the end of this age. Its not some new and safe exercise program. Its a mind link . Its the New Age Religion I was involved in back in 1987.

According to GOD’s word, it’s a contradiction for it to be “still very much yoga and anyone that practices will still get a real yoga experience” and still faithfully worship the ONE TRUE GOD. Not mixing with a false god like the Israelites of the Old Testament. People are being deceived and don’t even know it. PLEASE LORD FORGIVE US ON OUR THINKING AND HELP US NOT BE BE DECEIVED BY THE world AND THE forces OF THIS AGE. PLEASE HELP OUR BROTHERS & SISTERS REPENT FROM THIS ACT THAT THEY DO BEFORE YOU IN YOUR HOUSE.

Mark my words….Oprah is probably going to catch on to this soon and add it to her convoluted mixture of New Age “Christian” religion. It is so scary to see people always trying to take ungodly things or ideas and then twist them to fit their idea of Christianity. Be not deceived, little children…..

Yoga is the perfect example of how mysticism is sneaking in the backdoor of American culture. It has become as main stream as meditation. People are drawn to it for fitness and exercise, stress relief, back pain, etc.
They have no idea it has anything to do with religion. Professor Tiwari of the Hindu University of America said, “Yoga is Hinduismâ€. How many Americans are aware that the word “yoga†stands for “union†as in hooking up with something? In this case, that something is spiritual in nature.

I used to practice Judo, invented by a heathen Japanese guy. I’m considered an expert. I will use it on any child-molestor “christian” inmate in Florence prison where I work in a heart beat if I need to. Take THAT to the bank. Cash it.
