Israel knows that it can not do it alone. Iran is not a target rich environment like Iraq. It is full of mountains and valleys and many of the targets are in hardened bunkers. A single strike like Isreal did against Iraq would accomplish nothing and simply stir up a hornets nest. To be effective such a strike would require thousands of sorties over several weeks or months. Only the US could accomplish that. The reason I believe that the US may consider such a deal is I believe that Israel will link such a strike with a future Palestinian agreement perhaps even conceding east Jerusalem. Iran would never allow for peace to exist anyway so the only chance for peace is for Iran to be taken out. I think that Obama will attack Iran if he sees a real oportunity for peace between Israel and the Palestinians even if he doesn't take seriously Iran's threat against us directly which he should.
