Sometimes the progress of events in the Middle East is so depressingly predictable. Yesterday’s story: Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of the Palestinian authority, is preparing to enter direct talks once again with Israel over a settlement; the encouraging development was given further impetus by the tentative endorsement of talks by Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo.

Moving Towards Ezekiel 38-39
“Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:”
—Ezekiel 38:5
Editors note about Persia and Hamas •FYI: Many Bible teachers believe Persia is the area of present day Iran.
It certainly appears that, Hamas, is a surrogate army for Iran.
Today’s story: the largest rocket yet let loose out of Hamas-controlled Gaza since the Israeli offensive at the start of last year hits the city of Ashkelon, miraculously not killing anyone but not through want of trying; and Hamas itself criticises the Arab states’ statement on peace talks. Hamas has said it is trying to stop groups within Gaza from launching such rockets. It really needs to try an awful lot harder. Instead you can see what happens when Palestinians, Arabs or Israelis contemplate trying to settle their differences.
What should we make then of Hamas and its ceaseless efforts to eradicate Israelis and Israel the next time people are advocating bringing it into peace talks? Or what should we think about Israel’s argument that it is trying to stop materials that get into Gaza that can be made into weapons, hence the “inhuman†blockade of “prison camp†Gaza? To read most commentary on the subject you’d be forgiven for thinking that Israel is the sole villain in this never-ending multi-act play. It isn’t.
