Matt,
There are many in opinions in Christianity. I believe that the city was occupied in 732 and not a ruinous heap. The word ruinous implies totality destroyed and not to be built again, as Sodom and Gomorrah.
Look at its use in Isa 25:2 for an example.

I know there are arguments on both sides, however, I stand with the yet to be ashes position. The nation of Syria is not seem in Eze 38 as coming with the nations against Israel in the last days.

The replacement theology people would agree that the fulfillment came in 732 but I don't hold their preterist viewpoint.

With the conditions in the middle east changing everyday, we will just have to wait and see if the preterist or the futurist are correct.

We do know that the days call for the believer to look up (Luke 21:28) and that's what I am doing.

May the Lord bless your studies.

John,
I'd really like to hear your rationale for interpreting Is. 17:1 as if it referred to the future destruction of Damascus. I'm honestly curious why you adopt that view; it seems like it would be referring, at least in that context to the sacking of Damascus in 732 at the hands of the Assyrians.

President Bush is our elected National Leader, he is the Commander in Chief of our joint military forces; and, most importantly, he is a GOD-fearing man who is not ashamed of his faith. Quite honestly, it may be very helpful to have a president who exhibits a little bit of a cowboy mentality who doesn't take any of the options off the table. "Z" is correct, they do need to read up on our history. May GOD bless President Bush & all his staff with the wisdom & the empowerment needed to accomplish GOD's will for our nation, in Jesus name, amen.

Syrians and Iranians should read some US history. The USA exist today because the US cavalry charged and destroyed many Indian tribes. And this not thousands of years ago. Our Islamic foes are mistaken when they imagine the USA and the western free world will not pay a bloody price once more for our freedoms they call decadent.
