In Rapelay, gamers direct a character to sexually assault a mother and her two young daughters at an underground station, before raping any of a selection female characters.
The game was intended for release just in Japan, but was on offer to British buyers through Amazon Marketplace, the section of the online store’s website open to third-party sellers.
But Amazon has now withdrawn the game after complaints from users, deeming it to be inappropriate. “We determined that we did not want to be selling this particular item,” a spokeswoman said.
Rapelay was developed by the Japanese production house Illusion, which makes a number of sexually violent games for the domestic market. Their other titles include “Battle Raper” and “Artificial Girl”.
A spokesman for the company said: “We believe there is no problem with the software, which has cleared the domestic ratings of an ethics watchdog body.”
Keith Vaz, the Labour MP for Leicester East who has previously spoken out against computer games that promote violence, condemned the game.
“It is intolerable that anyone would purchase a game that simulates the criminal offence of rape,” he told the Belfast Telegraph.
Rapelay, which was released in 2006, encourages players to force the virtual woman they rape to have an abortion. If they are allowed to give birth the woman throws the player’s character under a train, according to reviews of the game. It also has a feature allowing several players to team up against individual women.

That such a game was created is repulsive enough, to have it around since 2006 without banning it is disturbing.

What kind of “gamers” live in Japan? The fact that there’s a market for these 3 games in Japan is cause for concern for women, & their safety, living in Japan.

Illusion should be boycotted.

There is a whole genre of these games The genre is labled ‘Hentai Games’ Hentai generally means ‘Asian porn’.

It appears the big press is over a moderation oversight on Amazon.com Marketplace, an eBay-like service that integrates into the regular Amazon.com search engine. Amazon.com itself wasn’t selling it.

When Linda commented, “Illusion should be boycotted” her straightforward statement registered immediately with me. I’ve had a growing, serious concern for some time over the place that illusion has come to occupy in our culture. I see it as Satan contending for the control of man’s mind, heart, soul and will, and he is making great gains. This generation has been conditioned like no other by illusion. Wondrously computer-generated and voluminously seen, heard, felt and experienced repeatedly in movie theaters, and readily accessed via television and computer screens, it has become everywhere accessible, at any time, at will, across our nation, as well as every other developed nation on earth.

It gives one pause when considering the wonders of technology, because the power of technology has brought with it a flood of illusion and an endless array of attractive devices designed to receive and transmit a seemingly endless stream of illusion to others. With the glut of household computers, and a continuous creation of attractively designed portable hand-held devices, illusion is casting its appealing shadow into every corner of the developed earth. It makes one wonder where, for many, reality leaves off and illusion takes over. Can it be very long before illusion wins out over reality for the generation surrounded and saturated by it from its inception?

This generation is becoming completely dominated by illusion, and the art of illusion has grown so amazingly sophisticated, so beautiful, and so “real.” It is competing hard with reality, because the experiences it offers are, in the estimation of many, superior to reality — therefore more desirable. That’s what makes Linda’s comment so pithy and strikingly apropos. We are witnessing a generation which has become surrounded by and immersed in illusion, the youngest members of it thoroughly. The youngest are a generation dangerously conditioned to let go their anchor in reality. They have been manipulated by illusion to desire what isn’t true and reject what is.

Illusion is the opiate of this generation, and it causes me no small amount of concern. Our young people have been conditioned to let go the realities of life, for the prospects of fun and ease, and the pursuit of creativity and imagination.

I see the ‘signature of Satan’ flickering on this generation, and I pray earnestly for God’s mercy in allowing hearts to find Him still, to find true life and reality in Him, the forgiveness and life He offers us in Christ.

Lynn,

You have given us one power-packed post to digest! And, unfortunately, I believe you are right on target. What is true & what is an illusion is a question the minds of many young people refuse to deal with because, as you say, they prefer the illusion.

The most dangerous illusions they have been sold by this society are about G-D, His Word, & His Son, Christ Jesus. There is no hope in this world without Jesus. There are no Absolute Truths without the Bible. There is no real comfort without the Holy Spirit.

With all this missing from their lives, is it any surprise that they buy into the illusions satan offers?

Lynn, all your adjectives & verbs paint it as ugly & dangerous as it really is.
And in most cases parents give these electronic devices to their kids so they don’t have to deal with them. Without realizing it, have we developed another form of sacrifice to Baal?

And, Lynn, I must be honest; my statement regarding boycotting Illusion was in reference to the makers of these filthy games.

BUT, I am glad that the remark caused you to share your thoughts with us because people need to understand what is going on spiritually in this matter.

Hope to see more postings from you.

Linda

thank you so much Lynn, you have voiced the opinion i have held for about 20 years, the military knows how these games work that is why they use simulated battle to prepare troops to kill and not be effected so strongly.when you train a whole generation that rape is a goal ( getting points),and abortion is the only way to be a winner(not thrown under a train????)you have destroyed it from inside.i find it interesting that the oversight board found it acceptable , kind of shows you where our morals are.i wonder how God can keep from vomiting.
