Turkey is continuing to import nearly 25 percent of its seeds from Israel despite the ongoing diplomatic disputes between Ankara and Tel Aviv, according to the head of a Turkish agricultural association.
“He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.”

“Turkey imported $62 million in vegetable seeds from Israel in the first seven months of this year,” İbrahim Yetkin of the Turkey’s Agriculturalists’ Association said Sunday.
In the first seven months of this year, Turkey imported tomatoes seeds for $14.5 million, cucumber seeds for $323,000, onion seeds for $12,000 and lettuce seeds for $11,000 from Israel.
The total figure of $62 million means that “25 percent of the seeds still come from Israel,” Yetkin said.
Turkish farmers will punish Israel for Tel Aviv’s refusal to apologize for a deadly 2010 flotilla raid, Turkish Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker had said Sept. 8, according to Anatolia news agency.
“Farmers, exporters and [people involved in the seed industry] in Turkey will take into account Israel’s spoiled attitude and give the necessary response in their relations,” he said.
During the 2005-2008 period, Turkish wheat seed prices increased by 82.7 percent, barley seed prices by 95.2 percent, corn seed prices by 16.7 percent, sunflower seed prices by 6.3 percent and cotton seed prices by 40 percent, according to the Analysis and Development Course of the Seed Sector in Turkey in Various Aspects, which was published in the International Journal of Agricultural Research last year.
